30 Day Tidying Challenge • Day 5 • Jewelry

Welcome to Day 5 of the #30daytidyingchallenge! This challenge runs from February 18th to March 19th, and if you're tidying with me over the next 25 days, the plan is to be finished in time for the first day of spring on March 20th (or the March Equinox if you are located in the Southern Hemisphere). This tidying challenge is based on the KonMari method, and I was hugely inspired by these three resources: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy, and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.

To help with the process, I put together this calendar, which shows all the different categories I'll be tidying during the 30 day challenge. Depending on your situation, you may want to tackle this project over a number of months, and that is totally ok too! You can still use the calendar--just follow the order, but take more time for each set of categories.

On Day 5, we'll be tackling the rest of our clothing accessories categories--jewelry, watches, glasses, and sunglasses.



Some thoughts on Day 5:

1) Try honing in on what you truly love by selecting items to keep rather than items to discard. I was getting stuck on jewelry, similar to my experience on Day 4, so I knew I had to shift my mindset. All along the way, I've been trying to select items to keep, but I tend to often revert back to picking items to discard. As soon as I started picking jewelry I wanted to keep, it got much easier. I knew right away which items sparked joy, and I naturally hit a point where it became more clear that the items remaining did not spark joy. I then gave myself permission to release the remaining items, and off they went out of my home.

2) Save sentimental items for Day 30. Jewelry and watches are categories that potentially contain several sentimental pieces. When I came across something that I felt I was keeping for sentimental reasons, I set it aside to review again on Day 30. According to the KonMari method, it is easier to tidy these items at the end, because our "spark joy" muscle will be well trained by then.
