30 Day Tidying Challenge • Day 22 • Recreation & Travel

Welcome to Day 22 of the #30daytidyingchallenge! This challenge runs from February 18th to March 19th, and if you're tidying with me over the next 8 days, the plan is to be finished in time for the first day of spring on March 20th (or the March Equinox if you are located in the Southern Hemisphere). This tidying challenge is based on the KonMari method, and I was hugely inspired by these three resources: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy, and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.

To help with the process, I put together this calendar, which shows all the different categories I'll be tidying during the 30 day challenge. Depending on your situation, you may want to tackle this project over a number of months, and that is totally ok too! You can still use the calendar--just follow the order, but take more time for each set of categories.

On Day 22, we'll be tidying home decor, figurines, collectibles, and picture frames.

Some thoughts on Day 22:

1) Be honest with yourself about whether you see your future self using your recreational items. We don't often use our recreational items. Last summer, I had every intention of heading to Centre Island (or some other green space) to throw a Frisbee around, but it never happened. This summer, pinky swear! I kept the Frisbee, but hubby managed to convince me to let go of the majority of our camping supplies. I enjoy camping, but he most definitely doesn't, and it's a ton of work for a couple of nights in the great outdoors. I agreed to let go of our very old tent, two sleeping bags, camping lantern, tarps, and air mattresses. You know what? It felt good. To be quite honest, I haven't had the camping bug in several years, so the chances of us going camping in the future are slim to none. We did keep our camping chairs, an outdoor electrical cord, and our butane burner.

2) It feels good to let go of big bulky items! While it's nice to let go of anything at all, I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment when I let go of big bulky items. The camping gear fit into this category, and we also said goodbye to our snorkeling gear. All of our recreational items are stored in the locker, and there is noticeably more room now, which I'm going to use to reorganize the items we decide to keep.

Thank you for tuning into Day 22! If you're tidying alongside me, please let me know how you're doing. I would love to hear about your journey and if you have any tips or tricks to share. I'll see you tomorrow for Day 23.

  1. When we got married, friends and family gifted us some outdoor recreation items. When we committed to our condo life, I knew that the eventual backyard we planned for wasn't going to happen. Today I was able to let go of our croquet set and several other semi-sentimental but mostly fantasy-self items. It also reminded me of the items I truly love (camp chairs for day hiking and outdoor concerts) and can envision using in our future life.

    1. We kept our camping chairs too!! I'm looking forward to using them at some point in the spring and summer. We love the condo life--even though the lack of space can be a challenge, and it would be lovely to have a backyard. Overall, the convenience and location fit our lifestyle. :)
